Comes with 9 pages of service documents, 1851 and 1861 census.

Benjamin Johnson was born in Stafford and by trade was a draper, he enlisted into the 10th Foot (North Lincoln Regt) Lincolnshire Regiment at Birmingham on 22nd March 1859 aged 18 years. Served with 2nd 10th Foot rising to Sgt in 1875 only to be reduced to Private for being drunk. By 1878 he was again a Sgt and made Colour Sgt in 1881 the rank he held to his discharge in 1891 aged 50 years. His conduct was described as ‘Exemplary and temperate’ and he served India, Gibraltar, Malta and Home. The LS&GC is his only medal entitlement after 32 years of service in the 2nd Btn. 10th Foot/Lincolnshire Regiment.
