British War and Victory Medal to 15244 Pte. William George Newton, 8th Btn. King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment who Died of Wounds on 6th March 1916 aged 25 years the son of George Thomas Pennington Newton and Sarah Newton, of Middleton, Lancs. Pte Newton is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium. Born Middleton and enlisted Oldham, he entered France on 27th September 1915 with his battalion and is entitled to 1914-15 Star.
8th (Service) Battalion formed at Lancaster in October 1914 as part of K3 and landed in France 27 September 1915.
