Alfred William Flack was born in 1894 in Grays, Essex the son of a Thames Waterman. Pre Great War he followed his father as a Thames Waterman and Lighterman he joined the Royal Navy on 5th July 1917 as an Aircraftsman II. He is recorded as being a licensed Mate of a tug. He transferred to the RAF on its formation in 1918 and was appointed A/Sgt. Post war he was appointed as a Pilot in the Nigerian Marine Department advancing to Senior Pilot in 1934. It is in this capacity that he was awarded the 1935 Jubilee Medal.
Royal Navy Great War medals roll confirms the Victory Medal only while his RAF records confirm issue of the British War Medal (BWM)........ this may explain the erased BWM.
